Cherry Pie Bars with Topping (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 3 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1 cup granulated sugar
03 - 1 tsp baking powder
04 - ½ tsp salt
05 - 1 cup butter, room temperature
06 - 1 large egg
07 - 21 oz can cherry pie filling
08 - 1 tsp almond extract, divided
09 - 1 cup powdered sugar
10 - 1-2 Tbsp milk

# Instructions:

01 - Heat oven to 375°F. Line a 13x9-inch pan with parchment paper or grease lightly.
02 - Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a stand mixer.
03 - Add butter one tablespoon at a time until the mixture resembles crumbs.
04 - Mix in the egg until just combined, keeping the mixture slightly crumbly.
05 - Press ½ to ⅔ of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
06 - Bake the crust for 10-12 minutes until it appears matte and light brown.
07 - Mix the cherry pie filling with ½ tsp of almond extract.
08 - Spread the cherry mixture over the warm crust evenly.
09 - Crumble the remaining dough over the cherry filling.
10 - Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
11 - Cool the baked bars completely on a wire rack.
12 - Mix powdered sugar, milk, and the remaining ½ tsp of almond extract.
13 - Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars and allow it to set before cutting.

# Notes:

01 - Can substitute almond extract with vanilla if preferred.
02 - For larger crumb toppings, squeeze the mixture in your hands before sprinkling.
